If You’re One Of These People, I Hope You Get The Worst, Itchiest, Most Relentless Rash EVER. You Are What’s Wrong With Humanity.

People SUCK SO HARD sometimes.

According to the sourcelink, a bunch of entitled a$$hats decided to game the Southwest Airlines boarding system recently by pretending to need wheelchair assistance so they could board ahead of everyone else.

If you’ve ever flown Southwest, you’re aware of the cattle corral set-up they’ve got going on. If you check in EXACTLY 24 hours before your flight time, you typically can manage an A or B group boarding pass, which allows you to board relatively early and get your pick of seats. Once you hit the Cs, you’re likely to be relegated to sucky middle seats and UNLIKELY to be able to sit with your travel partner, if you have one. It’s just Southwest’s thing. Some people love it, some people hate it. I have really no feelings about it whatsoever. It just is what it is. Even airlines who have assigned seats often seat people in the dumbest order ever. None of it makes sense, and these days, I just like to blame Mayor Pete for all of it, regardless of how much fault he actually has. 🙂

ANYWAY, MOST airlines allow those in wheelchairs to get pre-boarded ahead of everyone else. This makes sense.

But because the scummiest travelers on earth have figured out how to game that system, they’re now MAKING UP needing wheelchair assistance just to board earlier. The way they got found out? Well, because 20 people requested wheelchair assistance to board one flight, and miraculously, only 3 of those people needed assistance OFF THE FREAKING PLANE.

As the mom of a son with severe quadriplegia, and as someone who saw PLENTY of instances of non-wheelchair-users parking in wheelchair-van-only handicap spaces, THIS ABSOLUTELY SENDS ME INTO A FURY.

Unfortunately, when it comes to air travel, there’s next to nothing that airlines can do to prevent this.

From the source:

The airline replied to the complaint but admitted it had little power to stop any possible trickery.

“We’re sorry for any disappointment, Paul,” Southwest tweeted. â€śWe work hard to maintain the integrity of the boarding process while providing appropriate accommodations for all who fly. Since many disabilities aren’t visible, we’re unable to question the validity of preboarding requests.”

Southwest’s policy on this reads as follows: “Customers who need a wheelchair must identify ‘themselves as needing wheelchair assistance upon arrival to the airport, at any connection points, and upon arrival to their destination.’” Apparently, you can also add a wheelchair to your ticket while booking it.

It used to be that we lived in a civilized society when only the rare, shameless, disgusting menace would do crap like this. The fact that there were SEVENTEEN PEOPLE ON ONE FREAKING FLIGHT that did this just makes me seethe.

People suck.

Or go to assigned seats like everybody else. Why do they cling to the idiotic cattle car system anyway? The only people that like it are scammers and people who pay for A boarding.

This has been status quo for a long time at Southwest. They’ve set the bar pretty low. My husband saw the same thing a couple of years ago; about 12 to 20 “wheelchair” passengers who had no trouble deplaning and walking through the terminal after the flight. Why anyone chooses to travel on them is a mystery to me.

This is a case of what’s been called “moral hazard:” the deliberate abandonment of moral-ethical standards to gain some tangible advantage for oneself. It was damnable when people entirely capable of paying their own mortgages accepted government “help” to do so (https://www.businessinsider.com/coming-middle-class-anarchy-2010-10). It’s even worse today.

American society worked well when we all accepted and hewed to the same set of moral-ethical principles. Note how swiftly it’s deteriorated as ever-larger percentages of our people set those principles aside.
