US Military Loses F-35 After Pilot Ejection

After an unspecified “mishap,” a military pilot ejected and safely parachuted from an F-35 somewhere over South Carolina. He’s in stable condition in the hospital.

As for the plane, well. . . that’s a different story.

The military has actually gone to the public and asked for help finding the damn thing, because they can’t. Ya get that? The US MILITARY. Has LOST. An entire FIGHTER JET.

But don’t worry too much. It’s only an $8 million piece of equipment. Your tax dollars at work, friends.

To be clear, they’re not looking for a crash site, necessarily. The F-35 was in autopilot mode when the pilot ejected, so as far as we know it’s still cruising around somewhere in the South Carolinian skies. Damn you, Lockheed Martin, and your superior cloaking technology!

I think the question needs to be asked, Who exactly ejected the pilot? Did he make that decision for himself, or did Mr. Autopilot decide he was ready to fly and roam free?

I’m sure we’ll never know. But I hope two things, quite sincerely: first, that some civilian finds it intact and just. . . keeps it. Finders keepers.

Second, that the F-35 is happy, wherever it is. Godspeed, you magnificent robot beast.

Beautiful plane. The last plane system I got to work on before heading to Law School was the F22 and F23 programs, before they decided which one to use.

They should try the trick I used when a Judge at the court where I worked asked me to get their car and they had parked somewhere in a large parking lot. I would take the key fob and press the trunk key. Then I could quickly look around for a car with the trunk open.

So, hit the key fob and look for a plane with the canopy open. Easy Pezzi.
